Tuesday night is probably my biggest night of Television.
The Farscape repeat was an interesting enough episode. A middle part of a three part story from the second season. There's good humor in the series, and it works pretty well. Right now this series gets a lot of my time, and it's all still new to me.
Buffy was very funny, but I'm somewhat disturbed to see the geeks becoming bad guys. Wasn't Buffy the series where the geeks were the good guys? [Xander and Willow seem to be less geeky by the season as well.] Though their dialog was hysterical. And I'm going to so miss Giles.
And I think Smallville continues to show a lot of promise. I don't want them to rush into the Lex-as-bad-guy role, and I like how they've got that set up. I think the modifications in general are solid. They'll have some problems in having him discover powers every week - that's not going to last -- but otherwise, this continues to be on my schedule of shows to watch. It's also interesting to compare to Buffy, since Buffy is no longer about high school life, where Smallville is perhaps trying to recreate some of that feel of Buffy of five years ago.

Rory the Vampire Slayer
I've only watched one episode of Gilmore Girls, which seemed a quality show I'm not really part of the target audience on, but this is a funny article about the challenges of it being up against Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

And it's better than taking anti-biotics unnecessarily, which is a bad, bad, bad idea. Though it's like the Unibomber as far as risk...it's bad if you're a target, but they've been pretty specific targets so far, and most of us aren't working for a high-ranking Senator or a major media outlet. So it's bad, but panicking is counterproductive...

Old school pride
One of the teachers at my old elementary school was the Minnesota Teacher of the Year. (Of course, she wasn't teaching when I was there, in fact, I imagine many of the teachers that were at Gatewood when I was there are retired or moved on at this point...)

One of the cool things on the norm site now is that it now includes a "norm's diary" section in the archives, which is sort of a side-line commentary on the strip from Norm's perspective. And since Big Plot Things are happening right now, it's really interesting and cool...
I just have the massive fear that the strip will jump the shark at this point, but I really hope not. It's such a great strip...

Ethan Watters could be writing about me -- I definitely feel "tribal" in some sense; fandom, after all, is a tribe (well, several of them, actually), and my group of friends from high school is also a tribe. (Though that group has not been as strong as it once was, with friends leaving town and such.)

All very interesting. And I think those of us active on the internet might be more aware of this than others -- I've seen personal reports from people one and two-degrees away from myself, so even if I've never met them, it's got a bit more impact than if I wasn't connected.

A little note -- the open meeting for brainstorming about CONvergence 2002 programming will be at the Radisson South, on November 10th, starting at 2:00. It's intended to generate ideas, so is open to anyone who has some for next year's convention. (It'll get on the CONvergence website sooner or later, I hope, but I thought I'd mention it here...)

I wrote a Farscape Review for the MISFITS site -- I've really become a fan of it over the last couple of weeks since the Sci-Fi channel started it up from the beginning. I look forward to the episodes I haven't seen of it as much as I do new episodes of Buffy or Angel, which is the highest possible praise!
