EW's Lost theory

I'm not sure of all of the Lost theorizing here but I am thrilled by The Prisoner reference in the theory. The mysterious black monster strikes me as very similar to Rover, the "security system" in The Prisoner's Village.

Only a few more months to see what is really going on...

Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom

I'm in the middle of reading Cory Doctorow's Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom -- and while you can down load it for free, I'm perhaps old school enough that having the physical book to read is nice, and worth paying for.

I'm really, really intrigued by the Whuffie concept. It strikes me as putting a numeric value on something that really does drive people in their hobbies -- a numeric tally of your egoboo. We sit bits of it already -- I've seen it on Linked In, sort of, and there are lots of other reputation-based systems out there. And in it's own way, the ranking system of Google is sort of like that as well.

Spaced

I'm thrilled to see that BBC America is going to show Spaced later this year. The people who made this show moved on to make the funny zombie movie Shaun of the Dead. I've had the Region 2 DVDs for several years, and it's awesome. If you're at all Geeky, it's the story of your life. It's a couple of years old -- one whole episode deals with the disillusionment those of us who grew up with Star Wars found in the prequels, after all.

I'd like to see a Region 1 DVD release happen at some point, but my understanding is that the music clearances are very, very expensive for this country.

Escape Pod

Escape Pod, a weekly podcast that has audio science fiction short stories, is going to have a real treat over the next couple of weeks -- they're going to be going through several of the Hugo nominated short stories. This means you'll have some of the very best recent science fiction short stories out there to listen to on a commute or a walk.

I've been listening to stories for a month or two now, and there are frequently really good short stories. And if you're like me, you don't read as much as you really wish you could.

Lost and subLYMONal

subLYMONal is another strange page if you're Lost and looking for more information about the the Hanso Foundation....keep clicking on the screens, in a familiar and ever-increasing pattern.

?

I love that the upcoming episode of Lost is called ?. Many years ago I was involved with a Doctor Who fanzine also just identified with the symbol ?, and used that as the title of my Doctor Who pages until Torchwood came along. And in both cases, apparently, it wasn't really "Question Mark", but the actual symbol.

Weirded Out

Am I the only one that gets seriously weirded out when they start looking at Lost websites like And Found, or looking for information about Alvar Hanso on the Hanso Foundation?

Lost

There's an interview with two producers of Lost that is of course very, very spoiler ridden if you haven't seen that episode yet.

And I try to keep the main contents of these things relatively spoiler free, because I know that there's a good chance of international readership...

The End Times Are Here

Apparently, the original, pre-Special, Han-solo-shoots-first versions of Star Wars are actually coming out on DVD. Good to see that financial motives finally trumped George's artistic sensibilities, because this was the version we all wanted anyways. [And I think it makes the Special Editions easier to accept -- as an alternative, it's a great thing, but it's not really what we want as the original if you're trying to recapture childhood memories.]

The Hanso Foundation

The Hanso Foundation has one of the more impressive front pages I've seen -- of course, I still have to dig into all of the details of it.
